The doctoral program will prepare the student for such professional activity that requires deep knowledge in signal processing. Signal processing treats the extraction of information from noisy measurements. Central concepts are development, analyses and realization of methods for processing of signals. In recent years the field of signal processing has changed rapidly and has become of interest to a very broad constituency among the high technology companies. This broader set of users, coupled with technological advances in computers have led to a significant expansion in this area. There are many applications of signal processing techniques in other technical disciplines.

Applications in telecommunications are of great interest as well as applications to measurement technology and automatic control. In order to successfully solve signal processing problems, knowledge in other disciplines such as mathematical statistics, system theory, information theory, and communication theory is required. Studies in this field concentrate on digital signal processing algorithms and their implementation methods. Algorithm research works to derive new more efficient structures e.g. for radio receivers. VLSI, VHDL and ASIC offer a great chance to gather up and implement the complex algorithms of signal processing directly as circuits on silicon.

The superiority of this area is based on combining theory and practice, which is rare in the world of science. The algorithms of digital signal processing can be implemented in a smooth way by means of different equipment solutions or specific implementations can be developed by strictly theoretical means.
