The School of Computing provides all the computing facilities needed by students on its undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as for academic research work. The School traditionally offers student computing facilities which are among the best in the Serbia, and academics, laboratory organizers and the Computing Support Group make sure that the most appropriate computing systems are available. Research groups within the School also have extensive computing resources of their own and individual access to these may also be possible when students are doing project work.
The School's teaching laboratories are modern and spacious, with over 150 workstations available for students to use at any one time. To ensure our facilities remain state of the art we renew over one-third of the laboratories PCs every year. Students using these facilities can chose to use systems running Windows, Linux or Solaris operating system. All our workstations have flat-screen TFT monitors and fast networking. Those students who prefer to use their own laptops can also have access to high-speed wireless networking with dedicated special areas set aside for such use.

Other services provided by the School to all students include file storage, email, personal web space, and high-speed Internet access. The workstations are supported by a range of the latest Hewlett-Packard Blade System Intel servers running Windows and Linux connected by fast Ethernet gigabit redundant backbone switches. All students, like staff, have personal email accounts and the use of email and the Internet in general is central to life in the School. There is also a dedicated laboratory for computer networks equipped with more than 60 various Cisco devices.

Beside that, the School of Computing also possesses a larger number of special purpose computers and infrastructure support equipment: video surveillance and video streaming server, web server, communicational devices in each classroom and laboratory (Cisco, Allied Telesyn, Linksys, TrendNet), wireless network access points, HP and ATC UPS devices, a 100Mb/s optical link for permanent ISP connection etc. Soon after the world leading manufacturers introduced their first models of second generation blade system in the first half of 2006, one of those arrived at RAF.

The school management had decided to start a long term project of consolidation of their server infrastructure and purchase Hewlett-Packard BladeSystem c-class, deemed by many to be technologically the most advanced blade solution nowadays. The consolidation project at the same time initiated a long term cooperation between the Union University School of Computing and Hewlett-Packard company. The experts from Hewlett-Packard made, in cooperation with the school's management and staff, a multi-year plan for development of the school's infrastructure, adjusted to the planned technological announcements for the following period, the school's requirements and the highest world standards. The cooperation between RAF and HP will also takes place in the fields of teaching, knowledge transfer, consulting and advancing the school's server infrastructure.

The realization of this project will give RAF students an opportunity to access the latest technologies used by the world leading companies and to gain knowledge which will help them become holders of technological development projects in their future working environments.
